Your Professional Development 2008-2009

Foreword

"A hallmark of effective CPD is an ethos in the school of lifelong learning and development. If the staff exemplify learning as an instinctive and continual activity, they will also act as role models for the pupils"

From 'What does good CPD look like?'
Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) 2007

Dear Colleague,

In order to achieve maximum impact, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has to be inclusive and take into account the development needs of all involved in the evolving remodelled school workforce. This CD is intended as a resource to support school governors, teachers and support staff working with pupils and young people by presenting a range of professional development opportunities facilitated through the joint working of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion's school improvement and inclusion services.

The CD is entitled 'Your Professional Development' as it provides an opportunity for you as an individual to reflect upon and develop your own practice in collaboration with others, whether at departmental, school, family of schools, area, county or consortium level.

We ask you to take the time to familiarise yourself with the different sections of the disc and the activities they offer, and in so doing we hope you will recognise its value as a tool for assisting you in maintaining your professional knowledge, understanding and skills. The 2008-09 Programme is presented through three as opposed to four strands, (the previous strand of 'disseminating and sharing good practice' has now been subsumed into the other three strands). The strands can be accessed by clicking on the following links:

Strand 1: Short Course Programme
Strand 2: Family and Area Based Projects
Strand 3: Consortium Working

As with previous years, the disc provides a Help and Support Section through which you can access individuals, websites and reference documents. We particularly draw your attention to the Service Directory within the Help and Support section, which provides you with an overview of all that we seek to achieve during the 2008-2009 programme
