Tool Kit for School Improvement
Purpose:
To inform rigorous self evaluation to
improve the outcomes for all learners.
Data
The swamwac self evaluation data templates are intended for use by schools and Local Authorities to focus on data derived from school, Local Authority and National sources.
A series of questions taken directly from the new Estyn self evaluation manuals 2010 linked to the Estyn Common Inspection Framework (CIF) are used to enable schools to construct a written commentary. The responses based only on available data lead to comments about strengths and areas for development in the school.
Note that these templates only relate to National and Local data related aspects of the CIF. Questions in KQ1 that require schools to refer to self evaluation review evidence or internal pupil data/records appear in red. These aspects sit outside the remit of this toolkit.
Guidance and advice on providing answers to the questions is provided in the swamwac Toolkit Guides. Suggested sources of evidence are given alongside each question and a comprehensive list of data sources is provided in the Data Sources section.
School’s Context
It is important to include a context statement about the school to provide a backdrop to the school’s performance data. This allows the reader to appreciate the locality of a school, the nature of its cohort and any other relevant information, such as staffing
The information can be drawn in part from the context information in the Core Data set but it also provides an opportunity for schools to remind themselves of other contexts not evident simply through considering annual PLASC data.
