Context
Cwmtawe Comprehensive School is based in the Upper Swansea Valley for students aged between eleven and sixteen years. Pupils are drawn from a widely dispersed catchment area including the urban areas of the valley, hill farms and small villages – some of which are strongholds of Welsh. A significant and growing demand for places by parents of pupils living outside the designated catchment area confirms the popularity of the school. As a result of this, nearly every Year Group is now oversubscribed.
No pupils speak Welsh as a first language or to an equivalent standard. Less than one percent of the pupils come from minority ethnic backgrounds. No pupils receive support teaching in English as an additional language
Pupils entering the school represent the full range of ability.
